About

Since 1992, the Seattle Tutoring Coalition (STC) has been a unifying force for tutoring programs across Seattle. Our mission is simple: to create stronger academic support systems for students, tutors, and parents by connecting community and school-based tutoring initiatives. Through collaboration, resource-sharing, and a commitment to best practices, we help tutoring programs maximize their impact—ensuring more young people have the tools they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Mission

Our mission is to improve educational equity and outcomes by connecting tutors, community members, parents, with high-quality, accessible academic resources. We strive to address learning gaps, particularly in underserved communities, by fostering partnerships among schools, nonprofits, and community organizations. The coalition focuses on ultimately empowering students through promoting culturally responsive tutoring, mentorship, and resources, ensuring they have the tools to succeed academically and beyond. Our overarching goal is to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students in the Seattle area.

Background

Education in Seattle has made strides toward inclusivity, with increased efforts to support diverse learners through programs for English language learners, special education, and initiatives addressing systemic inequities. However, significant disparities remain, particularly for students from underserved communities, low-income families, and marginalized backgrounds, who often lack equitable access to resources and support. The Seattle Tutoring Coalition (STC) addresses these challenges by creating a collaborative network of organizations, nonprofits, and community members to bridge educational gaps. By providing access to tutoring services and resources, STC empowers students, families, and educators, fostering a more accessible and equitable educational environment for all.
